Abstract

The main characteristic signs of the unsatisfactory condition of the elements of gravity drainage and drainage-humidification systems that functionally affect the efficiency of regulating the water regime of reclaimed lands are determined. An assessment of the resource that determines the possibilities of effective water regime management at a number of reclamation facilities with a long service life is carried out.

Abstract

The study involved numerical experiments using the Plaxis finite element software package. A computer calculation model of the soil-bridge system was developed. Data on the development of tangential and normal stresses during changes in the water level in the irrigation canal, transport load, and seismic impacts were obtained using a real object as an example. When analyzing tangential and normal stresses along the edge of the bridge, it was found that the presence of seismic impacts has virtually no effect on tangential stresses in the section and amounts to no more than 5 %. However, modeling an asymmetric transport load affects the value of tangential stresses by more than 40 %, which must be taken into account in numerical modeling in construction practice.

Abstract

The article focuses on the use of agricultural drainage with filter backfills on two-way action systems. The feasibility of applying drainage and humidification systems, including on low-permeability soils, is substantiated based on scientific foundations and practical data. In connection with climate change and a decrease in the amount of precipitation during the growing season, it is recommended to use subsoil humidification and irrigation to create favorable conditions for plant growth and obtain stable yields.

Abstract

The results of water consumption of vegetable crops (onions, radishes, lettuce) on sod-podzolic slightly loamy soils under drip irrigation conditions (field experiments 2021‒2023 in the north-eastern zone of Belarus) are presented. To determine the water consumption of these crops, the water balance method and the method of maximum daily air temperatures were used. As a result of field experiments, it was established that the water consumption of vegetables on sod-podzolic loamy soils depends on the heat supply of the growing season and the norms of drip irrigation, due to the uneven precipitation and heat distribution within the growing season. It requires additional moistening of vegetables, both in dry and in years with moderately wet precipitation.

Abstract

In the field experiment and agroecological monitoring, an assessment of the quantity and quality of summer rain surface runoff and its impact on the environment in a reclaimed agricultural landscape was carried out. It was found that when precipitation fell in the amount of 89 mm per decade with a maximum intensity of more than 1 mm/min, the maximum modulus of rain surface runoff in the amount of 0.0148 l/s•ha was formed in the catenum of the local catchment area of the reclaimed agricultural landscape. According to the main indicators, the quality of surface runoff water is comparable to the quality of drainage water and differs from the latter only in a higher dry residue. Under conditions of using catena soils under grasses and forests, most indicators of drainage and surface waters do not exceed the maximum permissible concentrations of pollutants. The exceptions are total iron and ammonia nitrogen, the concentration of which exceeds the MPC of fisheries water use by 1.5 times and 5 times, respectively, which creates risks of eutrophication of natural waters.

Abstract

This article discusses the current challenges in supplying engineering staff to Belarus's land reclamation industry. Many years of experience years of experience in training melioration engineers at the Department of Environmental Engineering, Brest State Technical University describes. The piece emphasizes the key role of industry organizations and how they're woven into the curriculum. To boost the appeal of the «Land reclamation and water management» field, it suggests collaborative efforts involving the government, universities, and businesses.
